
Founded in 2017, the Research Institute is dedicated to the development of phage-based formulations, with a focus on technological innovation, process optimization, and applied research.
The Institute has established domestically advanced phage technologies for multiple plant pathogenic bacteria, including Ralstonia solanacearum, Acidovorax citrulli, Clavibacter michiganensis, Pseudomonas syringae, Erwinia spp., and several Xanthomonas species, helping fill key gaps in China’s phage-based crop protection technologies.
With a professional R&D team of 44 master’s degree holders, 5 PhDs, and 3 expert consultants, the Institute maintains long-term collaborations with universities and research institutions such as Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Ocean University of China, Shandong University, Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Qingdao Agricultural University.

His research mainly focuses on bacteriophages, microbiology, high-throughput sequencing, and bioinformatics.
He served as Chief Scientist of the Chinese medical team supporting Africa’s response to the Ebola outbreak, and as the Chinese Team Leader of the WHO-convened global study on the origins of SARS-CoV-2. He is also a member of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses and Chairman of the Chinese Bacteriophage Professional Committee.
Ren Huiying holds a master’s and doctoral degree in Preventive Veterinary Medicine from China Agricultural University. She is a second-level professor at Qingdao Agricultural University and Vice Chair of the Chinese Bacteriophage Professional Committee.
She has more than 20 years of experience in bacteriophage clinical research and has published over 100 academic papers in well-known veterinary medicine journals in China and abroad.
She has been granted 50 national invention patents, undertaken one national key R&D program, and received one Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. She also led the company in establishing a bacteriophage strain bank with a capacity of more than 10,000 strains.
